Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Central Pennsylvania?+
It depends on the municipality. The City of Harrisburg treats roofing as permit work, the City of York requires a permit when more than 25% of a roof surface is replaced, and Mechanicsburg Borough does not require one for a like-for-like covering replacement without structural work. We confirm the rules for your address.
Is my contractor required to be registered in Pennsylvania?+
Yes. Under the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act, contractors who perform home improvement work in Pennsylvania generally must register with the Attorney General, include their registration number on contracts, estimates, proposals and advertisements, and use a written contract for work over $500. You can verify any contractor's registration with the Attorney General's office.
How much deposit can a contractor ask for?+
For larger jobs, Pennsylvania law generally limits deposits to one-third of the contract price, plus the cost of special-order materials that are listed separately in the contract. Your contract will state the deposit and payment schedule clearly.
What causes ice dams and how do you prevent them?+
Ice dams form when heat escaping from the house melts snow on the roof and the meltwater refreezes at the cold eaves. The long-term fix is better air sealing, insulation and ventilation, combined with ice-and-water barrier at the eaves. We inspect the attic and roof edge and give you a written recommendation.
How long does a roof replacement take?+
Most homes take one to three working days after materials arrive. We give you a start window and a weather backup date.
Is the inspection really free?+
Yes. We provide free roof inspections and written estimates for homeowners in our Central Pennsylvania service areas.
Can you repair a roof in the rain?+
We can tarp an active leak in wet weather to protect your home. Permanent repairs are done when the roof is dry so materials bond and seal correctly.
Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?+
If there is an active leak, protect the home first and take photos. Then contact your insurer to start a claim. We can inspect and document the damage at any point.
